Scarabee·DahabA sheltered bay an hour south of Hurghada: superb offshore reefs, pinnacle diving and a poignant wreck — quality diving with a fraction of the crowds.
Each site gets its own map, photo and dive profile (in production). Depths and levels below.
A large reef with sloping coral gardens and two drift walls alive with anthias, snapper, turtles and passing pelagics — Safaga's signature, and it lives up to the name.
A narrow current-swept reef with steep walls of soft coral and gorgonians, grey reef sharks, tuna and barracuda — one of the Red Sea's great advanced dives.
A cluster of coral pinnacles rising from the sand, full of glassfish and swim-throughs — beautiful, easy pinnacle diving.
A ferry lost in 1991 with great loss of life — dived only with respect, as a memorial. A powerful, sombre wreck for experienced divers.
Safaga is a kitesurf and windsurf centre too, with desert safaris and black-sand therapy nearby.
Fewer boats, quality reefs — a favourite of divers who've 'done' the busy resorts.
Abu Nuhas and the Giftun Islands are an easy add-on.
Dive-focused hotels — strong German, Austrian and Swiss following.
